Super Mega Baseball 4 Gameplay Details Revealed - Changes to Franchise Mode, Leagues, Rosters & More

UPDATE: (5-26) The Super Mega Baseball 4 gameplay video has been released along with a new blog with plenty of gameplay details including changes to Franchise Mode, leagues, rosters and much more. Below are some of the bullet points.

  • The number of each type of player is no longer restricted, providing more flexibility in roster composition
  • Most Super Mega League teams now roster a 9th pitcher, while some teams have unique player additions
  • Pitchers are now able to play in the field, and position players can be utilized as pitchers, although success may be challenging
  • League Customization has been expanded to include a Free Agents pool
  • Free agents can be customized similarly to rostered players and are available by default in Franchise mode before randomly generated players
  • In Custom Leagues, the Player Movement feature allows for easy player swaps between teams and the free agents pool
  • One-for-one swaps can occur between two teams or between a team and the free agents list
  • On-field cameras have been improved, including a new line drive camera to aid in judging whether to jump or not, and new pitching and batting camera angles
  • New features include automatic intentional walks and the option to place an automatic runner at second base in extra innings of non-playoff games

  • SMB4 introduces a player re-signing feature in Franchise mode to add control and reduce randomness
  • Each rostered player now has a Loyalty attribute representing their loyalty to the team
  • Manager Moments throughout the regular season present decisions that impact player Loyalty
  • At the end of the season, a player re-signing phase occurs, where players present their asking salary for the next season
  • Players can be re-signed at their asking salary or offered to be re-signed at their current salary, but they may reject the offer and become a free agent
  • Franchise mode introduces new Player Development Opportunities (PDO) and more random age-driven events
  • PDOs provide chances for position players to upgrade or downgrade secondary positions and allow pitchers to learn new pitch types
  • Random events can result in pitchers losing a pitch type and players gaining or losing traits
  • Players from other leagues, including built-in or custom leagues, can appear as free agents during the Franchise playthrough
  • 75 unique Player Traits, including all 20 from SMB3
  • Player Traits are now more common, with the majority of players having 1 or 2 traits
  • Super Mega Baseball 4 introduces the Team Chemistry mechanic to deepen the Franchise mode and Shuffle Draft mode.
  • SMB4 introduces an extra roster slot, allowing for a total of 22 players

  • Baseball Legends: More than 200 baseball legends are integrated across Super Mega Baseball 4, alongside beloved Super Mega Baseball characters. Play in a league of baseball legends with teams organized by era, or mix things up with Shuffle Draft, a new feature that allows you to draft both Legends and Super Mega All-Stars to create a unique roster.
  • New Platforms & Cross-Play: Super Mega Baseball 4 is expanding to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for the first time, including all-important cross-play in Pennant Race and Online Leagues on new platforms, as well as PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
  • Top Community Requests: From the brand-new Shuffle Draft deckbuilding-inspired feature, to expanded player traits and a new team chemistry system that add a new layer of strategy; dozens of fan-requested upgrades – automatic walks and runners, two-way players, expanded bullpens, customizable free agent pools, and more – combine to add new gameplay depth.
  • Visuals: Experience authentic, cinematic baseball, powered by new cameras, cutscene animations and lighting provides a true-to-life environment in every stadium.
  • Audio: New crowd, voiceover, and foley audio give audio throughout the game a big upgrade from home plate to the bleachers. Plus, players will be immersed in the sounds of baseball with an all-new soundtrack with licensed and original music.

Super Mega Baseball 4 will release on June 2 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam for $49.99. The Super Mega Baseball 4 Ballpark Edition will release three days earlier on May 30 for $59.99 and include the following new stadiums:
