Dropping from 30 potential boss picks to five, Spring Cleanup did a great job providing true choice in terms of shaping your Diamond Dynasty squad. We’ve discussed how these Featured Programs differ from the three-boss choice packs of yore, but this positional spread felt like continuity more than anything else. Whereas in the past we might have seen an infielder and outfielder as part of the same program, it felt like a deliberate choice to feature these positions. I really liked the five-boss structure and felt like the cards were similar enough that it created a real choice. Even the weakest card at launch (Tom Seaver and his generic windup) was a decent choice for most squads. Suffice to say, if we see more five-boss choice packs in the future, I’ll remain a fan — especially if they really spread out the variety of positions.
The content update today mostly deals with adding to programs already in progress with a Topps Now update and some added XP to the Halladay and Friends Program. We also got the third roster update in Diamond Dynasty with some relatively big changes in it. However, the big news is the looming content drops next week that will involve the first mega collection, and a new program that will feature one player from every team. We’ll cover the updates first then get into some speculation on the content drops.
Moneyball is my favorite sports movie of the 21st century — and it’s not close. MLB The Show is my favorite sports franchise (that one is closer). Both mean a lot to me, so to see Moneyball in MLB The Show is a cool moment. There are so many wonderful things about Moneyball, but the beauty of what’s ultimately the last bombastic scene of the movie is that for all the other “based on a true story” heavy lifting the movie does to create movie magic that goes beyond the realm of the basic facts, the last scene is all just baseball. What happened, happened.
