It’s been nearly five years since we last reviewed Sociable Soccer here at Operation Sports. When we last saw it, Sociable Soccer was a fun, arcade-paced game that made us remember when times were simple and the main point of video games was to have fun. Coming to PC and consoles in April 2022, Sociable Soccer 22 is already available on Apple Arcade for iPhone users.
For those interested in what the differences will be between the mobile and PC/console versions, the short answer is a lot. According to the press release, Sociable Soccer 22 on the more powerful consoles and PC will feature the following:
- Enhanced graphics and animations
- Enhanced gameplay, strategy & AI
- Collectible legend players per club
- Challenges and battle pass system
- Improved PVP matchmaking & customizable difficulty
- Update to all 1,000 teams & 30,000 players for 21/22 season
While the game doesn’t feature the official player licenses and likenesses that come with the FIFPRO license, the teams available in the game bear a striking resemblance to the clubs we have come to love and support in real life. For those of you that purchased the version through Steam back in 2019, this new version will come at no cost if you choose to upgrade. This was verified on Sociable Soccer’s official Twitter:
You will get the new version, as long as you provide a proof of purchase. Thanks for following us since the Steam Early Access release. 👍 https://t.co/dlZMGC4fe0

Recently, Sensible Soccer creator Jon Hare spoke with online gaming site VGC to talk about his vision and the process over the years that has ultimately resulted in us getting to the point where Sociable Soccer is now, specifically, capitalizing off the popularity to focus on higher-powered machines such as PCs and new-gen consoles to take the game to the next level:
“At the end of May, after patiently looking for the right partner, we managed to strike a deal with Kiss Publishing. Now we’re able to activate all that PC/console stuff that we couldn’t do on mobile. Obviously graphically, we can push things further, and also there is a whole bunch of features we want to put into the game, which we can now launch with on the PC/console side. So, it’s an exciting time.“
Taking the approach mimicked by Konami this year with eFootball, Sociable Soccer will see periodic updates as key features and new innovations are developed:
“We’re in the rolling feast of the development world these days, so there are features that we’ll get in for the version in April, and then there will be more features as we go along, rolling out every six months or so.”
Perhaps this is the newest trend in gaming (rolling development cycles) as companies struggle to meet deadlines associated with game development in a world when technology and other outside factors seem to evolve continuously. In Jon Hare’s own words, they’re now able to mesh the mobile and console/PC niches, probably aided by the fact that the game isn’t as graphically demanding as say FIFA.
“We’ve now put the final piece in the jigsaw, which is the PC/console to go with the mobile publishing that we had.”
Sociable Soccer is definitely a game to keep on the radar come April 2022. If the game is anything like the prior version we played with enhanced visuals and quite possibly mods for the PC, we’re in for a real treat.
