Skater XL Improves Grab Mechanic in Latest Beta
Easy Day Studios has released a new Skater XL update improving the grab mechanic in the latest public beta. The new abilities function similarly to the original core gameplay in that they are not pre-determined movements or scripted animations. It’s a set of systems that generate movements in real-time, based on the player’s input, enabling players to exercise their creativity, style, and expression more freely. Check out the details on the new grab mechanic below.
- Grab the board at any time with LB / RB, including while riding, during manuals, grinds, power slides, mid-air, during flip tricks, during pop-outs and more. You can also hold grabs through transitions between these different game states. There are no constraints on when you can grab or when you need to release the grab.
- Grab the board at any subtle angle you choose based on the angle of the board. There is a unique hand position and pose that will be created for any given board angle. Each hand can grab anywhere around the board including between-the-legs grabs, Seatbelts and Crails.
- Grab and release the board with either or both hands independently to mix and combine different grabs.
If you’re interested in trying it out you need to opt-in by right clicking Skater XL in your Steam Library, open properties and select Beta branch. Steam will automatically download it for you. The team mentions the same update is coming to consoles soon but didn’t provide a release date.
