Headliners Set 11 2nd Half Heroes Greg Maddux replaced Prime Dan Plesac in Headliners packs today. 2nd Half Heroes Greg Maddux is a 94 overall.
This is the second Greg Maddux card to hit The Show this year, with the first being a gold Maddux from the NL East Team Affinity. This means this is also the first Greg Maddux you can find on The Show marketplace.
Maddux has a sinker, cutter, circle change, slider, and curveball. He has 105 stamina, 111 pitch control, and of course he has 97 fielding at his position. He’s going to top out around 90 mph, but his curveball dips to 74 mph, and then his circle-change will hover around 79 mph. He has top-end control of all his pitches, with the sinker, cutter, and circle-change all having 90+ control and 90+ break. This means you need to be comfortable with the circle-change mechanic if you use pinpoint pitching. If you are okay with that motion, then Maddux can dance around the zone and try to keep batters off balance.
In my history, Maddux cards have not been the greatest high-end cards to use, but I think control being more important this year — and more reliable — means Maddux has more use than usual. If you’re nailing pinpoint pitching, you really can dot the corners and induce some bad swings if you’re properly setting up batters with quality pitch sequencing. If anything, he’s a fun change-of-pace card that you can use to expand your skills.

The odds on the Headliners packs remain the same as always, so good luck if you try getting him in packs as you’ll have a 1:10 chance at a diamond, albeit that diamond might not be 2nd Half Heroes Greg Maddux.
