Limits to Player Editing in EA Sports College Football 25 FAQ

There was a lot of info dished out yesterday about EA Sports College Football 25 and even more seems to be coming today, so I figure it’s best to do a couple small stories about some of the big topics people remain curious about. One major topic revolves around player editing and the limits of it in EA Sports College Football 25.

Early on, EA had made it clear there would be restrictions on how much you can edit players in its college game, and we have some more clarity on that topic in a couple different areas now.

Real Players Mostly Can’t Be Edited

If we go back to NCAA Football 14, you could obviously edit most things on most players. Now, everything from the attributes to their equipment will likely be locked on the real players. It seems like the restrictions are even tighter on certain players prominently featured via NIL agreements, but I have not seen what that means.

While this is a bummer, this all tracks as editing players in general was a massive part of the lawsuits that sank EA last time around. Not much has been said about coaches (beyond no real ones being in this year), but I’m guessing there will be limited editing there as well.

As for trying to create players like Arch Manning, EA maintains safeguards are in place there to stop that from happening. Again, what that means is a little unclear.

On the bright side, EA will be editing and updating the rosters during the college season, so it’s not like the day one rosters will never change.

Can You Edit Generic Players And Prospects?

We have more clarity on this topic after a video from Not The Expert. As of now, you can’t edit numbers or faces for prospects in future years of dynasty mode. You can edit names, handedness, position, physique, size, weight, equipment. It’s not clear if you can edit attributes since it’s not called out one way or another, but I would assume you can’t until I see otherwise.

In terms of users creating players and how deep that goes, EA has thrown around some figures like 16,000 custom heads (made up of a combination of multiple facial features), 70 hairstyles, and 14 skin complexions. So users should have some amount of flexibility here to get creative, especially in comparison to prior EA football games.

Can We Share Rosters?

As far as I can tell, this has also not come up as of yet, but I’m not sure how much “sharing” rosters would really be worth right now anyway. Considering the limits on editing generic players and naming them real players to circumvent the system, the real “potential” here would come from Team Builder, and it does seem like we’ll be able to share Team Builder teams. Hopefully that means the full edited rosters for these teams will be included in what folks share as well, but the Team Builder reveal has still not happened.

No Export Draft Class Feature (This Year)

This one we had talked about in a couple articles in the past, and I had been pretty consistent in thinking it would not make it in due to licensing messiness. It seems like this is exactly the case as the agreement in place with college players is just for the college game. Importing them into Madden would mean there needs to be a new agreement, and I don’t think EA has a good way to solve that part of things for now.

I assume because we can’t use the export feature until all the real players no longer exist, EA made the choice to not put too many resources into having the feature available within dynasty mode.

That said…

You Can Export Your Road To Glory Player Into Madden

Because your Road to Glory player is not real, you will have the chance to at least import this player into Madden if you want. You can’t become a coach after Road to Glory like in the old games. This is also probably a good way for EA to test the feature in general before maybe giving us the full export feature back in the future if licensing gets solved.

(I will continue to update this article as we get more info on this topic, or some folks bring info to my attention I may have missed while parsing through the oodles of articles and videos from folks at the event.)
