Grand Theft Auto VI: 5 Sports We Would Like to See

In case you missed it, there was a trailer release for this little known game called Grand Theft Auto VI. The trailer was a hidden gem on YouTube with over 100 million views. All jokes aside, GTA 6 is undoubtedly one of, if not the most hyped games in many years as folks anxiously await its release in 2025.

Much like with GTA 5, players will be able to play as more than one protagonist as the game focuses on a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde story featuring Lucia and her unnamed male companion (widely speculated to be Jason but not 100 percent confirmed).

But you’re probably wondering what the heck does GTA have to do with sports? Well, GTA has long been praised for its open-world freedom. This includes several sports and activities that have been a staple in the legendary series for many years.

In GTA San Andreas, you can shoot hoops on pretty much any basketball court. In GTA 5, you are able to play tennis and golf among other things. In fact, the golf takes place in the GTA universe’s version of the historic Los Angeles Country Club, which hosted the US Open in 2023.

So while the juice of GTA is the story, combat, city, and online modes, the series is no stranger to fun side activities. So in this article, we’re going to name five sports that would be cool to see in the sun-soaked city of Vice City in GTA 6.

Skateboarding

Skateboarding is a sport that’s great in any city, whether it’s the cold-weather places like New York and Chicago or the always-warm locations like Los Angeles or Miami. It’s a sport that has been tapped into many different city cultures.

But having it in Vice City just feels right. Being able to kick-push (shout out to Lupe Fiasco) down the street while the sun sets over the southern city sounds like a pleasant experience. And as the GTA 6 trailer shows, Vice City seems like a really “carefree” kind of place and skateboarding is an excellent carefree type of sport.

Sometimes you just want to ride and pull off flip tricks all around the city. It’s both extreme and laid back at the same time, depending on how you approach it. And if skate parks are available in the game, then this obviously would crank things up to 100.

Basketball

As we mentioned earlier, hoops is no stranger to the world of Grand Theft Auto as you were able to shoot shots and throw down dunks with CJ Johnson in San Andreas. Unfortunately, with GTA’s return to San Andreas in GTA 5, you could not play basketball (outside of PC mods) although there were courts scattered around the open world.

The time is now (well, in 2025) for Rockstar to bring back the great sport of basketball to the world of Grand Theft Auto. To hoop it up in the beautiful version of Vice City would be fun. It doesn’t even have to be a full 3-on-3 or 5-on-5 experience. It could just be about shooting around or playing mini games like H.O.R.S.E. just to satisfy the basketball itch. A return would be a welcome addition. And besides, who doesn’t want to knock down three-pointers with Lucia?

Table Tennis

The reason to bring table tennis/ping pong to GTA 6 is simple. Not only is it fun but Rockstar actually made a full blown table tennis game in the past — and one that was well received overall. With that experience, they have a good opportunity to make a good table tennis game within GTA 6.

And this could be a great opportunity for GTA 6 Online as I’m sure we’ll be able to buy properties again. And so with that, we could add ping pong tables to our buildings and invite friends over to play at any time. And maybe you can also call any NPC connections you have for some classic user vs. CPU action.

These matches are simple, fun, fast-paced, and exciting. It’s probably one of the most underrated sports out there. It wouldn’t be a sequel to the aforementioned Rockstar Presents Table Tennis game but rather a strong alternative.

Disc Golf

We’ve seen golf in GTA 5 (and who knows, maybe we’ll see it again) so how about disc golf in GTA VI? The sport has always been a fun and unique way to play by the rules of traditional golf and it’s been quite popular over the years.

The beauty of disc golf is that you design a course in pretty much any way you can imagine. You’re aiming for chained baskets with your frisbees (or discs) and it’s these baskets that you can tweak anyway you like. So this could allow the folks at Rockstar to get very creative with how they design their courses.

Or perhaps they’ll base a course off of a real one, like Kendall Indian Hammocks, a course that’s essentially down the road from Miami and is highly regarded. Whatever the case, they’ll have plenty of freedom to design an awesome disc golf course in the game.

Scooters

So, it was kind of a toss up between scooters and roller skates, and frankly you can’t go wrong with either one, but for the sake of choosing I will say scooters. They’re probably one of the most versatile pieces of action sports gear out there. In a way, scooters are like a combination of a bike and skateboard.

We’ve gotten a good taste of motorized scooters in the GTA games over the years so now it’s time to get more sporty. And with the speed you can gain on a scooter, you could have some fun online races as well. Sure, they won’t move fast like a bike for example, but it would still be fun.

And like with skateboarding, you can probably go and get some sweet customizations as well to best suit your style when you hit the Vice City streets. BMX bikes have been a longtime tradition in the games so the scooter mechanics could be similar, making it a lot easier to implement. Seems like a win.
