Gran Turismo 7 on PS VR2 Will Feature All Cars and Tracks at Launch
Earlier this month, Polyphony Digital announced Gran Turismo 7 would receive a free upgrade at launch of the PlayStation VR2 on February 22. Unfortunately no other details were revealed at that time.
In the latest PS Blog President of Polyphony Digital, Kazunori Yamauchi, provided some great news. He states Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation VR2 will feature all of the cars and tracks at launch. Online races will also be supported, however 2-player split screen races will not.
Through a free upgrade, for those who have already purchased Gran Turismo 7, players will experience all cars and tracks in VR like never before. GT7 in VR takes full advantage of PS VR2’s next gen features. With eye tracking and foveated rendering, players will experience stunning visual fidelity while racing in any of the 450+ cars. While 2-player splitscreen races are not supported in VR, all other races, including online races, will be available. From the Nürburgring to Tsukuba, tracks can be experienced exactly as they are in real life.
The eye tracking will be great and it will be interesting to see if it will include any of the new sensory features in the headset. As mentioned in a previous blog the headset feedback feature amplifies the player’s perceptions of in-game actions. It adds an intelligent tactile element to gameplay through a single, built-in motor that creates vibrations. As players speed forward, gamers may feel the acceleration of a vehicle, the rush of objects passing close to the character’s head and the elevated pulse of a character during tense moments.
Either way, that’s quite the change from the limitations the original PS VR had with Gran Turismo Sport. The PS VR2 is scheduled to release on February 22 for $549.99.
