There’s been a different vibe to this World Cup. Ethical concerns, moving the World Cup to the winter, and a host of other questions have surrounded the world’s most prestigious sporting event. One thing that is for certain and unquestioned is the quest for one of the game’s greats to take the next step and etch his face atop the list of the best to ever do it. While his club successes are undisputed, the one knock against Leo Messi has always been the fact that he hasn’t achieved much with his native Argentina. Off the back of a Copa America win and now with his country finding themselves in the 2022 World Cup final against France, Messi has a chance to overtake the late great Diego Maradona, both nationally and on a global level. Never one to miss an opportunity, EA appears to be dropping a Messi Team of the Tournament (TOTT) card soon.

FUT Sheriff broke the news just as they’ve done with the Phenoms and World Cup Heroes. In what is most likely their last promotion for the 2022 World Cup, the TOTT should be packed with interesting options. Some of these players will likely be athletes who were big names before the tournament while others like Sofyan Amrabat have announced their name to the world.

With the stats not formerly finalized, these cards are sure to be highly rated, reflecting the outstanding performances Amrabat, Messi, and others have put in thus far. For Messi, the 99 dribbling and 96 shooting (which could be a tad low if we’re being honest) will most likely contribute to him being the highest rated player among the lot (perhaps besides a late Mbappe card). This should come as no surprise considering he still carries a rating of 91 overall for the main game, only losing points due to father time’s eventual insistence on robbing even the most immortal of men and women of their physical abilities.
Still, as we saw with his spin and turn of Josko Gvardiol in the semi-finals, Messi still has a lot of to offer as his mind works faster than his legs nowadays. If you find yourself in the market for that cunning attacker with an eye for goal, Messi is your guy. As always, happy hunting!
