eFootball 2023 - Updated Roadmap and New Features in Update V2.4

Spring 2023 Update

Here are the features that are going to be live with the Spring 2023 update for eFootball 2023.

Additional Player Slots In My Team

Scheduled for Spring 2023, the option to acquire additional player slots will be available, although it remains unclear how you will actually acquire them. Do you have to use eFootball Coins or GP? Regardless of how you acquire these additional slots, those who like to hoard players will take great pleasure in expanded rosters. I personally keep my roster pretty small (25 or so) but there are times where I could see more slots being beneficial.

Adding Player Skills To Existing Players

Another feature that used to be in PES games — well the mobile versions at least — it appears that we’ll be able to train current players up on skills (double touch, step on ball control, etc.). I do like the idea of adding skills to current players as it reminds me of skill training in Master League. In past games, you’d be able to train your players on a specific skill. There were different time frames for learning the skill based upon how rare the skill was. I can see myself using this feature as once you hit the current max level on your players there really isn’t too much else to use your GP on.

Additional Items For Player Contract Renewal And Ways To Obtain Them

Here’s an issue Konami plans on resolving that comes directly from user feedback. As it stands now, player contract renewal tickets are very hard to come by and a bit pointless if you are lucky to obtain one. The thought of losing some of the legendary players I’ve unpacked would be frustrating, but on the other side, it could balance out some of the super teams that feature legends across their formation.

Summer 2023 Update

Reset Progression Points With GP

Currently with eFootball 2023, managers only give points, sometimes to players you regret allocating them to. With no previous way to take it back, Konami plans on allowing players to reset their progression points at the cost of some GP. Hopefully this brings a little more strategy into how you spend your progression points, but more than likely folks will just give and take freely from their current roster.

Five Substitutes For Dream Team

Finally, Konami has realized that five substitutions have been commonplace in real life since the start of the post-Covid lockdown restart. While some leagues were slower to adopt this change, the majority of domestic leagues and continental cups have written this change in stone. I’d like to see Konami also expand the benches to at least domestic rules, if not UEFA, to go along with this change. It is very odd that Konami took so long, especially considering modders of PES 2021 were able to do it years ago.

eFootball 2023 Future Updates

There’s nothing like dropping an updated roadmap while also teasing the next roadmap. What happened to the old roadmap or milestones on it? I thought the entire purpose of this new model was to enable crossplay, which was supposed be to done a few months after the release of eFootball. Nonetheless, Konami gave us an update on some big omissions.

Master League

The biggest reason why so many former PES aficionados have moved on from eFootball is down to the lack of modes. PES and Master League were synonymous in their heyday, but fans of the mode have been wondering when we’ll see it make a return. Nearly two years on from the release of eFootball and we’re still missing the game’s heart and soul.

Edit Mode

Is PES without Edit Mode and Master League even PES? I personally don’t think so because it’s 2023 and no one wants to play with Manchester Blue anymore. I understand that licenses cost money, especially in the case of EA’s new 5-year deal with the EPL, but licenses also help sell games. The work that modders can do to the game to enhance it is truly incredible. That same work even helps to drive less-interested folks over from FIFA. Edit Mode should have been one of the first additions by Konami.

Crossplay

Raise your hand if you thought Konami, after all their struggles with online performance, would be able to pull this off?

Yup, I’m seeing no hands so we’ll rest our case.

Bottom Line

Only Konami can give you an update and then tease another update. Roadmaps are good and all, but like I mentioned before, what happened to the last roadmap? Why didn’t Konami address that before dropping another roadmap on us? I personally like some of the changes that are coming this Spring 2023, but they don’t get me excited to want to pick this up and start grinding divisions and challenge events again. It’s the “TBD” section that will bring folks back to the game. As I stated in the gameplay updates that came with update V2.4.0, the gameplay is good enough to play, there’s just nothing in eFootball 2023 that will make you want to play “just one more game,” and from the looks of this new roadmap, that seems to be the course we’re stuck on for the time being.
