EA Sports PGA Tour has brought the whole major championship band back together with the return of Augusta National and The Masters. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour carried three of the majors but there was definitely a void with The Masters being absent.
Designed in 1933 by Bobby Jones and Alister MacKenzie, AGNC has regularly been ranked among the world’s greatest and most beautiful golf courses. It also features 18 wonderfully designed holes, including the iconic three-hole stretch of 11, 12 and, 13 known as Amen Corner.
But aside from this big three, there are several other unforgettable holes. But which ones are the best? Frankly, you can’t go wrong with just about any of them, but for fun, here are three other awesome holes that Augusta has to offer and are a blast to play in EA Sports PGA Tour.
15th Hole – Firethorn
We’re teeing this list off with a bang as the 15th hole at Augusta may arguably be the fourth most famous hole on the course. Some may even say it’s the third. It’s the sight of maybe the greatest golf shot ever hit when the great Gene Sarazen got a double eagle here in 1935. This would be known as “The Shot Heard ‘Round The World.”
And to call this hole “fun” in EA Sports PGA Tour is an underestatement. For starters, it’s a downhill par-5, which are always fun. Then, you can reach the green in two so there’s that instant excitement of an eagle opportunity. Plus, the hole presents a challenge with the water that’s sitting right in front of the green.
Challenge? Great scoring opportunity? Downhill? Yeah, I’d say this hole is a pure masterpiece. And the fact that it’s just two holes after the breathtaking 13th hole truly makes the run from 11 to 15 one of, if not the greatest, five-hole stretch in all of golf (shout out to the amazing, bunkerless 14th known as Chinese Fir).
10th Hole – Camellia
One of the most dramatic holes at Augusta, the par-4 10th is an excellent start to the back nine at the historic course. It’s also seen its share of epic playoff finishes as well, making it one of the course’s most recognizable holes.
From an elevated tee box, you get one of the prettiest views on the golf course, which speaks volumes considering that the whole darn place is beautiful. And with the hole playing more downhill, it’s easily the best driving hole at ANGC as far as pure “fun” goes. It’s fun to regularly just do a custom round in EA Sports PGA Tour and include the 10th just so you can tee it high and let it fly.
The approach shot is also just as excellent. It can be both challenging and reasonable at the same time, especially with different pin placements. This is a masterpiece of a hole and is a pure joy to play in EA Sports PGA Tour as you visualize yourself winning The Masters in a playoff.
16th Hole – Redbud
It was really tough deciding between the 16th hole or 18th hole, Holly, but ultimately settled with Redbud. In short, the par-3 16th is one of golf’s true crowd pleasers. There has been plenty of drama and exciting moments on this hole over the years.
And it’s become a hotbed (or hotbud?) for hole-in-one activity. That’s no doubt part of the allure of Redbud for fans — not to mention the beautiful water and its cozy location. Sure, the world famous 12th hole has water, drama, and is also a par-3. However, the 16th seems more up close and personal adding a unique layer of drama. That said, I’m not saying it’s better than 12. Golden Bell is arguably the Holy Grail of par-3s in golf.
And, of course, it’s so much fun to play in EA Sports PGA Tour. You’re inches shy of either greatness or an utter disaster considering the close proximity of the pin (depending the day), fringe, bunker, and water as they all want to pull your golf ball in different directions. Golden Bell may the King, but Redbud is the Royal Hand.
Holes That Were In The Hunt: 1, 14, And 18
It’s really hard to pick favorites at a place like Augusta, whether it’s real life or in a video game. From the iconic opening hole, to the bunkerless wonder of 14 (though it used to have a bunker), to the famed finish of 18, you couldn’t go wrong with these three holes either.
