Diamond Dynasty - Topps Now Carlos Correa, All-Star Mike Schmidt

On top of the Monthly Awards/May Topps Now Program, we also got the May Monthly Awards Event and Headliners Set 20. In the new event, the top rewards are a Topps Now David Ortiz and Topps Now Carlos Correa. Headliners Set 20 All-Star Mike Schmidt is the new card there.

May Monthly Awards Event

May Monthly Awards Event

  • Monthly Awards, Topps Now, Future Stars, and Live Series allowed
  • Max team overall of 92
  • 3-inning games
  • Difficulty: All-Star
  • Free entries (as always)

The event runs until June 16. The rewards have been boosted a bit here it seems. You still get your usual two Rewind packs, but now we’re getting two Always Intense packs here as well if you feel like grinding it out to 30 wins. After 30 wins, it does not really seem worth your time to continue to 50 wins. Beyond that, this event is meant to help you grind the Monthly Awards Program, and I will be using it as a tool to quicken the pace towards Lightning Rafael Devers.

Rewards

  • 1 wins – The Show pack
  • 3 wins – 2,000 stubs
  • 5 wins – 1,500 XP, Headliners Set 19 pack
  • 10 wins – 2,000 XP, Rewind Events pack
  • 13 wins – 1,000 XP, Topps Now David Ortiz

Topps Now David Ortiz

Topps Now David Ortiz will be far from the last we see of Big Papi this cycle, but it’s good to get an upgrade from the launch version. Defense and speed will always be the issue, but even in a world full of good 1B, Ortiz and his swing still reach the upper echelon. This is a better than usual reward for events.

  • 15 wins – 500 stubs, Headliners Set 20 pack
  • 18 wins – 1,500 XP, Topps Now Carlos Correa

Topps Now Carlos Correa

Speaking of good rewards, Topps Now Carlos Correa seems worthy of the 18 wins needed to snag him. He’s not quite Ortiz at the plate, but we also have not been given an elite Correa yet this year. His speed maybe keeps him out of the top tier because that’s a useful attribute for defense, but a big bodied SS is still somewhat unique in this game.

  • 20 wins – 1,000 XP, Always Intense Set 1 choice pack
  • 23 wins – The Show pack (x3)
  • 25 wins – 2,500 XP, Rewind Events pack
  • 27 wins – The Show pack (x5)
  • 30 wins – 2,500 XP, Always Intense Set 2 choice pack
  • 35 wins – 2,500 XP, The Show pack (x5)
  • 40 wins – 2,500 XP, The Show pack (x5)
  • 45 wins – 2,500 XP, The Show pack (x5)
  • 50 wins – 2,500 XP, The Show pack (x5)

Headliners Set 20 – All-Star Mike Schmidt

Headliners Set 20 - All-Star Mike Schmidt

There are so many 3B to go to now that it means All-Star Mike Schmidt might struggle to get play. That said, the secondary position of SS gives him some life considering how good his glove is at 3B. The speed is only 57, but he’s going to have elite power all-around. The 73 contact against RHP is an obvious blemish, but he should be a force on all but Legend/HOF difficulty — assuming you like his swing (I do not).

The odds on Headliners packs to pull a diamond are 1:10 (as always), albeit that diamond might not be All-Star Mike Schmidt. In addition, this year you can buy one pack of the Headliners choice pack, which gives you 1:3 odds of pulling a 90+ overall diamond (and of course costs more stubs).
