MLB The Show 22
Diamond Dynasty - Maddux, Eckersley, Bob Gibson Added
A trio of old faithfuls have come to Diamond Dynasty in MLB The Show 22 today via a new event and a new Headliners pack. In the Pitcher’s Paradise Event, we get All-Star Greg Maddux and All-Star Bob Gibson. With Headliners Set 8, we get All-Star Dennis Eckersley. These are three big names, so let’s discuss if any of them will be worth the time or stubs to acquire.
Pitcher’s Paradise Event
Replacing the Moonshot Event is the inverse (kind of) with Pitcher’s Paradise. Only, we’re not using common hitters, it’s just taking place at Forbes Field.
- Any pitchers
- Any hitters
- Forbes Field only
- Max team overall of 88
- 3-inning games
- Difficulty: All-Star
- Free entries as always
The event will run until April 29.

The win requirements are a little tight considering it’s a weekday event, but it still looks relatively manageable. As for the rewards, I don’t have a ton of faith in All-Star Greg Maddux. The control numbers look great (but not prime Maddux elite), but there’s not a lot of differential in speeds here. The H/9 is only 83 as well, so I think this card could be dodgy. However, Maddux cards were better than usual last year so it could be okay.
With All-Star Bob Gibson, you don’t get the same great control, but Gibson also had a bit of a renaissance last year in DD so I’m bullish as of now with this card. Starting pitchers are still very much in flux right now in DD, so I think he’s absolutely going to be worth using for at least a couple starts. He has solid pitch speed differentials, 87 H/9, and then a five-pitch mix. With a high-90s fastball and then a curve and changeup to keep people honest, it’s a promising card for this point in the season.
Headliners Set 8 All-Star Dennis Eckersley
Dennis Eckersley cards are tricky to me. Some people really like them, but I’m usually not a backer of them. That said, this All-Star Dennis Eckersley has somewhat low H/9 numbers for a reliever, but he has immaculate control (97+) of all three of his pitches. On top of that, there should be just enough speed differential to make the sinker/fastball-slider combo feel different enough at the plate. I will still be avoiding this card, but I stand by the general concept that most relievers are worth at least trying out in DD to see if one clicks for you.
The odds on Headliners packs to pull a diamond are 1:10 (as always), albeit that diamond might not be All-Star Dennis Eckersley. In addition, this year you can buy one pack of the Headliners choice pack, which gives you 1:3 odds of pulling a 90+ overall diamond (and of course costs more stubs).
